I'm the Director of Research at SimBiotic Software where I've helped study a range of topics in BER from evolution misconceptions and how to overcome them, to ways of constraining open-ended activities to make it easier to interpret student understanding, to performance-based assessment. The thread running through is the use of simulations and other software tools to help biology learners. Our current projects are on learning experimental design and learning how to make graphs.
